The talented Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani became famous mainly for his unusual, expressive portraits. His volume textured line, bright, warm colour and special elongated vertical shape can not be confused with anyone. To create this painting, I used Modigliani's original sketch of caryatid (1913-15) Having explored the Modigliani's artistic technique, I tried to recreate the idea of the artist, but to bring in a more contemporary vision. The master is almost always visually divided a background of paintings into parts distinguishable from each other by colour. It was a favourite part of the art technique of the maestro and was a kind of his "business card". Thе Modigliani believed that due to such asymmetry, the depicted object was automatically brought to the fore and became more prominent. The combination of colours, in accordance with the aesthetics of expressionism, is devoid of subtle transitions; they are contrast with each other. In all the paintings of Modigliani, the object is clearly visible with the help of a contour. The image of the caryatids, the maximum expression of which is in the Greek temple of Erechtheion (built in the V century BC), attracted the artist very much. On this type of female figures, he composed up to sixty sketches and several paintings. In this art work, I made the caryatid figure more proportionate and feminine. The beads with which Modigliani decorated his caryatids' necks, I painted on the wrist and the concept was born arbitrarily: Modigliani's caryatid became more contemporary and wants to look different.

"In the contemporary world, or rather the art market, it is very difficult to stay in one style and genre. That's why I think it's necessary to be in a range and to try different things". Scheglova Olga, currently lives in Scotland. She graduated from the University of the Highlands and Islands with a bachelor's degree in contemporary conceptual art. She works in different styles and genres of art because she believes that visual art always serves the interests of its epoch. Value systems break down, new ones appear, context changes and the perception of works of art also becomes different, so in her opinion a contemporary artist must be versatile. In addition, Olga is interested in appropriation in art and her dissertation was aimed at exploring this very topic. The artist prefers to work on high-quality box canvases and uses professional oil paint and texture modelling paste.
