We are in the midst of a time of political turmoil, and many of the singular people who stand out are African American women. True heroines! Araminta Ross, who changed her name to Harriet Tubman, was at the top of the heap. She was brave, wise, and successful, receiving a lifetime pension for her work in the Union Army! And she led a post-War life in a Quaker town in New York. This painting is based on a rare photo of her as a young woman after the War Between the States.

I'm a retired physician, born in Newark, NJ and currently residing in Northeast PA, in Beaver Meadows. I've always had an interest in art from throughout history, but have been more focussed on painting for the past 50 years. I am currently a co-owner and gallerist of Greenleaf Gallery and Gift Shop in Beaver Meadows, PA. Prior to a 2 year hiatus due to CoViD, we had new shows every two months showing artists from North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa.
