About The Artwork

This is a 3'x4' gallery wrapped canvas over panel. Edges are finished in black so no need to frame. The canvas is prepared with a fresco secco. This lends to an interesting bone colored surface that's marked with pencil, iron oxide, tar staining then rendered in acrylic. Inspired by the New Village series I have been developing since 2011. This work takes a more minimalist approach and infers coded language or ancient folk traditions that want to read like 21st century text. Other works have been exhibited at the Elmhurst Museum, Chicago; The Evansville Museum of Art, History and Science and the Saint Louis University Museum of Art.

Her paintings were selected by Julie Rodriguez Widholm, the Pamela Alper Associate Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, for the 2011 Midwest edition of New American Paintings.
