ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is a formal study based on the Abstract Expressionism movement. I use a variety of brushes to create colorful and interesting marks. These works are two part: I start with an interesting mark or two; the marks that follow are intended to create a balanced, completed composition. My ideas are informed by Mondrian's balance techniques, sumi-e painting, and Wayne Thiebaud's use of color.
