About The Artwork

I created this piece in hot summer. It reminds me underwater life, but also rain and clouds. I wanted to paint rain, that would wash all sad memories - I wanted to capture refreshing and life-giving power of rain!

Biography: Anna Hryniewicz was born in Wroclaw, Poland.  Graduated with distinction from Wroclaw School of Music (study in Piano Performance); and University in Poland (Art Education, Painting) and received her Masters in Fine Arts in 2004. She also holds a Diploma in Piano Performance (LRIAM) from Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. As a parallel with her work as a painter, Anna has worked as a graphic designer in multimedia companies,  illustrator, teacher of art and music. She runs art sessions, creative work with children and adults,  including children and adults with disabilities.  But first and foremost she is a painter. Shortlisted for the Winner Prize Award in RUA RED Winter Open Show in Dublin Ireland in 2015. Her works can be found in private collections in Ireland, the UK, USA and Poland, as well as public collection of OPW Ireland. In 2018 Anna was an Artist in Residence in Cill Rialaig Artist Retreat; in 2019 Draiocht Residency Award; since 2018 she is a member of Visual Artists Ireland. She lives in Dublin since 2007 ARTIST STATEMENT I paint intuitively, losing myself to create something that will surprise myself in a positive way. It sometimes takes a long time to happen. I have been committed to painting abstraction for over 12 years, when I obtained my MA in Fine Arts in 2004. But before that, I have always loved and leaned towards abstraction since I can remember. I create works that are about colour and line, I explore surface in search of light, gesture, space, motion. I have an open and dynamic practice, which doesn't have a formula, it's all about experimenting and looking for interesting solutions. Once painting begins the original idea evolves in unexpected way. When I start painting I step into the "unknown" to discover something new, that I cannot plan beforehand.
