Bacchus, or the Drunks, inspired by Velázquez's famous masterpiece, describes a bacchanal, in which excesses and vices give free rein to debauchery. In the scene the characters, drunk, give in to their vices; but it is also a scene of abundance, in contrast to the Apollonian. According to Nietzsche, Bacchus is the counterpart of Apollo, who represents one of the facets of the human being.
