This is an abstract expressionist painting in contrasting pinks, orange and green with black and white drip lines, inspired by their contrast in relation to each other. It evokes the movement of the bodies at a party to celebrate the Orishas of the Afro-Cuban culture. This work is meaningful to me as an artist because it was an exploration of new techniques resulting on a successful outcome and new knowledge to apply and inspire new and more works.

I am a contemporary abstract expressionist artist, and my inspiration comes from color itself. I have developed my work intuitively and organically through endless experimentation with mediums and techniques which have coincided at this time with my actual expression. I create forms that do not follow any logical criteria, but are based only on my perception of inner life, reality and subjective associations which represent my individual concept of beauty. Art is truth expressed by the action of a brushstroke to create beauty originating from existence. My intention when I paint is to capture an illuminated moment or a movement in my life which inspires me to materialize that vision through the alchemy of painting with gestures, colors, contrasts and textures. There is a flame inside which replenishes itself with new images and keeps me moving forward with my work. Each painting has a unique story related to myself which differentiates us from the rest. My goal has always been to be a good painter and to continue to do my work and present it to the world as my painting. Born in Havana, Cuba, I grew up watching my father, also an artist, paint and illustrate magazine covers, which influenced my path towards becoming a painter myself. I left Cuba with my family in 1960 and came to live in New York City, where I started to paint and exhibit my work in New York's Greenwich Village and other venues on the east coast. Ever since, I have been developing my own painting style and technique, using color as an inspiration and communicator of my thoughts and emotions. I have had many solo exhibitions and participated in group shows both in the US and abroad. My work is in several private and public collections and has sold at Sotheby's New York. At present, I live in Miami, Florida, where I have my studio.
