ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Two weeks after September 11, 2001, I was Artist in Residence at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. After 911, I could only think of creating reflections of what is really important in this life: beauty, the divine, subtle levels of the creative process, love and joy, healing and service to the world. BMoCA was noisy and active with deliveries, museum visitors asking me questions about my art, and staff hanging a show. Working much smaller than usual allowed me to maintain composition and focus on development of these little pastel painting icons. Upward-pointing triangles represent the Masculine Divine. Nataraja is Shiva as Lord of the Dance, who dances Creation in and out of being. I enjoy the element of movement and dance that materializes in many of these pastel paintings. This visually pairs well with BMoCA 15: Emergence.

Sensitivity, playfulness, and delicacy. Essence of nature captured. Abstract and expressive imagery emerges from texture and archetype, as the chemistry of consciousness depicts subtle levels of creation. Artworks by a self-taught artist with a doctorate in Creativity, Art, & the Sacred speak to the heart and subconscious, bypassing the intellect. "My first memory is of insisting when I was four that prospective buyers of our Atlanta house see the paintings I'd done in my bedroom closet." Born Atlanta, GA. Grew up in Jacksonville, FL. 30 years Santa Fe, NM. 8 years in Marin County, CA. “Art is a doorway, the freshness of the fountain within. My inspiration comes from quiet interior states, meditation experiences, and contemplative creative time with nature, books, and art. I create art that expands and enlivens consciousness, that nourishes, heals and makes whole, and is a wonder to myself and others.” Artist Interviews: + many more from 2022, 2023 on my website.
