Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, Gouache, Marker, Ink, Paper on Paper.

'Balloonwali Ajji' is a woman selling balloons in busy street of Mumbai. This artwork is a part of the ‘Many streets many wonders’ series by artist Zoya Chaudhary

‘Many streets many wonders’ is an ongoing project by Artist Zoya Chaudhary. It is a visual documentation of the local character/flavour of places and how quickly it is being lost. The need for Internationalisation is slowly killing the local culture specially of smaller places.

To sell global products, media also sell ideas, often one-sided, and create unjustifiable fascinations with ways of life that hardly represents natural progression for many vanishing cultures and communities around the world.

‘Many streets many wonders’ is an ongoing project and hopes to chart different cultures around the globe.

In this artwork, Zoya has used her old notebook papers with notes as one of her mediums. Since she has been living away from her home country, India, this process of digging into old notebooks and using them as part of the artworks is like searching for familiarity from her past, things, people, places, as she knew them. Her collaged notebook pieces also an interesting texture to the artwork.
