Bandit 1 Painting

During the terrible 2020 lock-down I could not visit my studio for several months. I was desperate to paint when I did get back, but had to break with some things I was doing before. Every watercolour method excited me (wet into wet, wet into dry, dry on dry, opaque, transparent, loose etc.) - instead of my previous colour research just with horizontal lines - and I wanted to explore with a deeper intuition of technique that I have accrued over the years. Entering into this new phase this piece marks a deviation for me, hence its name “BANDIT”. While this unique approach (part sculpture, part painting) with watercolour on paper is a delicate enterprise, every means is taken to protect the work to ensure its safe arrival so that when unpacked, it is ready to hang. General information about the work: This painting is made from an assemblage of smaller watercolours painted on Fabriano 300 gm paper. Each element is cut, folded and assembled to make the final work. This assemblage is secured to a wood backing for structure and strength and finally mounted in a white wood box frame.
