Wonderfully inspired by the female artist movement here I wanted to include a pop icon. Surely Barbie has had decades of experiences being looked at as a female (sex)symbol. Thinking of the LOVE wall in LA and everyone who takes selfies there I created this #metoo wall as the background. All handpainted in acrylic on the birch board in the background and the Lucite in front. The Lucite Panel is attached to the back birch panelbox by 4 stainless steel standoffs. This technique of painting in two parts gives the artwork the 3 D effect and that shine that a lot of people try to imitate by pouring resin over their paintings. Barbie hangs on the wall by the wire in back and has an overall depth of 3 inches. She is part one of two - the next part to be posted in a few days so please check back and 'follow' me here on saatchi.
