About The Artwork

This is an abstract painting in watercolor and acrylic on textured polypropylene (a.k.a. Yupo). It will be framed in a deep shadowbox as pictured in the supplemental image by Simply Framed, my framing partner whom I have worked with to find the best framing solution for this type of painting with thickly applied acrylic. This composition started with delicate watercolor washes in pink, yellow, and turquoise, which mixed with the yellow to form some nice greens. On top of this I poured acrylic pouring medium mixed with low viscosity (high flow) acrylic paints which I then pushed around with a silicone wedge to open up windows into the background. Then I dripped more pouring medium with black and magenta high flow acrylic lightly, peppering the composition with little black and magenta dots. I made this painting as the weather began to turn chilly and I began to realize the days of summer were behind us. The pallet is evocative of blue skies and green fields, and the mood is pastoral and calm, but with undercurrents of tension and violence reflective of our current political climate.
