Pascal Poutchnine is a self-taught French painter whose work is rooted in light, memory, and emotion. Originally trained as a scientist, he turned to painting in the 1990s, developing a vibrant and personal figurative style. Inspired by his travels through the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia, he creates mixed-media compositions in acrylic and marker that feature sun-drenched landscapes, lush vegetation, and stylized architecture. His bold use of color evokes Rousseau, his quiet scenes recall Hopper, and his luminous, blue-infused worlds suggest Hockney. His work also carries echoes of Gauguin’s warmth, Matisse’s vitality, and the contemporary chromatic boldness of Chris Firger. Based in the Vallée de Chevreuse near Paris, he continues to explore vivid, poetic landscapes where clarity of form and sensory intensity meet.
