Bebula Painting

The work was inspired by normal everyday African women who carry their babies on their backs with a piece of traditional cloth wrapped around them as a baby carrier. This work is a-emotional as can be witnessed by the mother's blank stare and the fact that the baby has been painted without a face. I chose the medium as it was my first time painting, due to the fact that I am a pencil artist however I have always wanted to paint. The subject matter is one I am familiar with, this way of carrying children is normal in my culture and is nothing out of the ordinary, simply put its mundane, a-emotional and just utilitarian.
