About The Artwork

This is a painting I always wanted to paint, mainly because I wanted to commit to canvas a distorted perspective of a flower and bay beneath from the viewpoint of a bee. Instead of the flowers being small, they take up the vast majority of the painting, with the village small in the background. They are effectively a micro-world which is so often missed when one walks down a track - there is so much beauty and detail in nature that can be so easily overlooked in the absence of stopping, looking and actually seeing the beauty in these tiny micro environments. Often, they are architecturally beautiful and rich in detail and colour. I have a suspicion that part of my enjoyment in painting this piece was also because I find bees so fascinating, including what they create, that I also enjoy watching and photographing them. A painting from their perspective was thorough enjoyment for me. Something you may have noticed, some of the yellow colour on the bee is very real. I think this is because I used acrylic for the painting, but in parts gold leaf. It comes through very well.

Hello, thank you for visiting - the Artwork on this website supplements my journey described on www.adrianodell.com. My background: I live and work in Jersey, Channel Islands. I am an enthusiastic Artist, from painting to photography and vase collecting. I lived in the Caribbean for many years, and bought colourful art. The colours and vibrant culture inspired me. I purchased various pieces of pottery from Mexico, Brazil and other bright and exuberant countries. When I moved to Jersey, I started collecting Italian vases, attracted by the colours but equally the raw, tactile beauty of handmade art glass from Murano. I dedicated vast effort to building a collection of art glass made by Vittorio Ferro (1934-2013), visited Venice and wrote a book which I self-published on Amazon "Murrine from Murano - One Man's Art in the Glass of Another". It is about how I found my journey in Art in the Glass made by Vittorio Ferro. The book needs much further work, but is well represented on my website as explained above. It represents my basic premise that Art is a repository of culture. A language which communicates across generations. A language which is influenced by all that is around, from architecture to personal experiences. It is constantly changing between and within people from moment to moment. I started painting in January 2015, and my work on Saatchi very much shows the full journey. I believe everyone is an Artist, given my theory that Art is an "emotion", and the expression of it, whether in a painting, poetry, dance or singing, is an Artistic Medium and not Art itself. I believe Art exists in the mind of the creator and in the mind of the perceiver. Thus, Art is never the same for two people, or within a person as their perception of any one Artistic Medium fluctuates due to short term factors, such as mood, as well as long-term factors, such as past experiences. My journey in painting, which has absorbed the best part of two and a half years, is displayed on Saatchi. There were no lessons and no sketches, What you see here is what I sat down and painted. Photographed. I have not stopped yet. People ask me why I do not take painting lessons given my passion for Art. I always explain that I am not so much interested in the technique or skills, but rather grappling with my own soul to express what is in it - colours, texture, design and otherwise. I do not mind how they are perceived.
