Begotten unmade Painting

This painting started with an inspiration from Mark Rothko. 2 blocks of colors in relation, resting fixed yet hovering somehow. I was looking for balance: boldness and subtlety of form, light and compositon. The painting hung for 6 months, I suspected unfinished. I struggled to underdand it. I then worked with the surface again, more intentionally and without hesitation. Layering and removal. The colors became more vivid and blended yet suspended and separate. Miro popped up in the placement of abstract shapes and lines. Later, while struggling furiously and with exertion using two palette knives on the canves in search of the right red, I accidently swiped the knive on my finger, missing the rag I was using. It bled quickly. There it was. The red I was looking for. I had it all along.
