Black Hole Painting

In the desert, the night sky feels like it will swallow you whole. You loose track of size, time and space. A quiet moment like this makes one feel most alive. It made me feel both significant and not, all at the same time. Being inspired by that sheer wonder while on a rock climbing trip, I felt called to attempt to recreate how seamless the moment folded into itself...both visually and metaphorically. I paint on recycled/reclaimed wood that I find, as a sustainable ode to our dying planet. Wood tells it's own story in its grain which is so sacred. I like to hi-light the grain by bleeding my paint into it. Acrylic paint is best on wood because it layers and holds up on the surface. Surrealism is the style because the moment I described prior was both real and unreal.
