About The Artwork
Original work, one of a kind experiments in overlay. Invented and designed first in photoshop. I superimposed a fragment from one of my original icons of the face of Christ. I then printed the image and worked from the paper copy. The image becomes an egg tempera painting, filled with texture and style form the stone pigments

Mary Jane Miller has been a full-time artist dedicated to iconography for over 30 years in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She paints and teaches the ancient Byzantine-style art of Icon writing as a prayer form. Her understanding of its spiritual symbolic language and her dedicated skill result in an experience that is deeply meditative as well as artistic. She teaches using the traditional medium of egg tempera, hand-tooled pewter, and gold leaf. Her magnificent and unique studio in Mexico is open by appointment.
