The idea of the blocks was born during a period when the daily routine, household responsibilities, raising children, and the acute need to paint created a pressing agitation. Looking out the window in search of relaxation and connection with nature, the cold reality of concrete blocks and the lack of horizon sparked deep reflection. Behind each window, like the artist, people lived their lives with dreams, hopes, worries, and they too looked out the window, longing for a brief respite. The urban landscape unfolded in the same way, with personalized walls, the orchid on the windowsill, and clothes left out to dry. Regardless of the city, these colorful blocks cover the entire country. Those who live with this image always before their eyes come to identify with what they see. The decision to paint the blocks represents an acknowledgment of who we are as a people, with memories of a gray, communist era. Each person, depending on their skills, creativity, and resources, tries to mask and insulate the concrete walls. This manifests as a struggle for survival in the urban jungle, a battle with a poor and oppressive past. In the pictorial space, we focus not only on the physical and tangible dimension but also on the spiritual dimension inherited from our people. The collection of living spaces carries a weight that can be easily deciphered by most observers. --- As an abstract painter specializing in oil, I create captivating artworks that emphasize shapes, colors, and textures over realistic depictions. Utilizing rich, vibrant oil paints, I craft dynamic compositions that evoke emotions and provoke thought. My technique allows for deep color saturation and intricate layering, ensuring each piece is unique and visually stunning. Magdalena Stavila is a painter from Brașov, Romania. Born in 1982, she graduated from the Art High School with a focus on sculpture, and later from the Faculty of Arts in Oradea with a specialisation in painting. Caught between raising children and life's challenges, her early works consisted of small still lifes through which she studied concrete form and its relationship with light. In recent years, the artist has returned to her passion for color, shapes, and textures, exploring new expressions that reflect themes related to the human psyche, the relationship between the individual and the external world, as well as with divinity. She is fascinated by the depth and subtlety of symbols and the expressive power of visual language, which she considers to be a universal language that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. Magdalena Stavila has exhibited in Oradea and Brașov, bringing to the public works that capture the essence of the human being and the complexity of their relationships. She also runs a YouTube channel where she offers painting lessons and encourages the public to engage in painting.
