Painting: Tempera on Wood, Other.
This painting is inspired by the background of the early German artist, Martin Schongauer's 'Madonna in the Rose Garden'.
I have used the materials of the medieval and early Renaissance periods, including an oak panel, water gilding on bole and dry pigments hand ground in egg tempera. The use of historical pigments means that the colours are true to the period, while the use of translucent egg tempera over a white base gives a luminosity characteristic of early painting.
The painting has an integral white frame and is ready to hang, with a hook attached at the back. It can also stand independently or on a mini easel, which is particularly effective for display on, for example, a bookshelf.
