About The Artwork

"Bluebird on My Shoulder" is an encaustic wax and mixed media painting. I started by creating an Encaustic Monoprint painting on Kitakata cream colored paper. Pigmented Wax is painted to a special hot plate, like paint...then the paper is laid down on the hot wax creating the one of a kind image. I mounted the paper to stretched canvas and continued the painting in watercolor, gouache and acrylic. Finished with a satin varnish for extra protection. The painting is 16" x 20" with 1 1/2" sides. The sides have been painted cream and a hanger is provided on the back. Signed on the front. And signed and titled on the back. I hope it makes you smile! My current abstract work is an inner reflection of my own battle with cancer and the realization that life is just too short. I hope it will be a reminder to not live life on auto pilot...seize the day, have fun and enjoy every moment that we are given.

Wyanne (pronounced Y-anne) has been a full-time artist for the past 30 years. Her work is in collections all over the world. In late 2013 Wyanne was diagnosed with Stage IV oral cancer. She had never smoked, and was otherwise relatively healthy. She lost her entire tongue and 66 lymph nodes. Speaking clearly has become a challenge. She takes all of her food and drink through a stomach feeding tube, but she is still cancer free. Wyanne considers the cancer a gift, pushing her to find the courage to express herself more honestly and boldly. She doesn’t waste a minute of the time she's been given, painting full time most every day.
