ABOUT THE ARTWORK
An abstract drawing/painting done in archival ink wash and acrylic on fine art paper. Part of a series called the Book of Sighs, these works express idiosyncratic, gesural variations of a sigh: from graceful to emphatic. Freely expressed, I envision the long deep breath of sighs as dark or smoky lines and tones of released aspiration or of longing. When sighs are interrupted or constrained, I envision them as nervous, edgy, or hardened, trapped rather than freely joining the world's chorus of sighs. The Book of Sighs expresses variations in this concept, using tonal washes, contrast and intuitively organized, fluid or jittery graphic marks.
