I try to paint and live with passionate honesty. I am less interested in painting the world as we see it. What I want is to paint the world as we feel it. For me, a painting is only successful if it causes an emotional response. I admire intellect and precision but intellect is not really how we humans experience the world. We humans filter every fact through our emotions. If intellect was enough, then musicians could satisfy themselves with sheet music. But sheet music has never made someone cry. I want my paintings to be worthy of tears.
