Painting: Acrylic, Paper on Wood.
"Break of Day", 2015, acrylic and cut-paper collage on plywood, 24 inches tall by 20 inches wide (60 x 50 cm)
Multiple layers of paper and paint create rhythms suggesting the light and sounds -- birdsong, wind, children's voices -- of a summer morning. The patterns are intended to evoke alternative systems of musical notation like those devised by composers such as John Cage and Morton Feldman, while the colors are those of the natural world in summertime.
The painting was executed on lightweight 1/4” plywood, primed in white with acrylic gesso and latex enamel. The collage elements are attached and sealed with a UV-resistant acrylic medium (to prevent fading). The acrylics used are all Golden brand products.
The completed painting was lightly varnished for UV protection, framed in a wood “floater” frame, ready to hang; it is signed and dated both front and back, with title on back.
