ABOUT THE ARTWORK
'Breaking Boundaries' documents my experience of working with the young people of the First Nation. As a young landed immigrant arriving in Quebec in the 1970s I travelled throughout Canada and North America. I eventually settled in Vancouver and worked in a children's home. This painting is about those children.

After a career in London I went to the University of Hertfordshire as a full time student BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art. The large painting, 'Present Tense Ronda', from the Degree Show is now exhibited in the University's Fine Art Department, and the large painting 'Diner Party', from the same Degree Show, assisted in my application in taking up full time study for the Masters Degree in Fine Art Practice at Central Saint Martins, London. I worked in a studio in Hackney, London, and became involved in a number of art projects including the development of an original Victorian area of Kings Cross in London. At the UH I studied print making use of silk screen and photo-etching techniques in my paintings. The paintings "Breaking Boundaries", "OldWorld/NewWorld", "The Labyrinth" and "Marks in the Sand", document my experience of working in a childrens' home in Vancouver in the 1970s where most of the children were of the First Nation.
