Title: Bricoleur 2 Size: 20x16 inches Frame: unframed Signature: front and back Medium: acrylic / mixed media on mat board Informal, gestural abstraction; powerful, colorful, challenging; inspiration comes from a variety of sources - both art historical and the contemporary context. This piece is on mat board which is not meant to take fluid media. Therefore, the board is slightly warped. This is intentional as it is part of a series exploring woman as bricoleur in the contemporary context where so many are underprivileged, and as a result, are expected to accomplish without always having access to the proper or appropriate tools or materials. Beginning with the first marks, the work progresses via call and response vacillating between intuitive and formal concerns as each is considered. Kathy Wright is an American born visual artist based in Sarasota, FL. With a Bachelors Degree in Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology, she went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. Kathy has received numerous awards for her work including an Individual Artist Grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation for her Everglades Series of paintings and a Knight Neighborhood Challenge Grant from the John S. and James L. Knight foundation for sculpture. Among other honors, Wright has participated in the Art in Embassies Program of the United States Department of State, Sophia, Bulgaria and was Artist in Residence in Everglades National Park in 2008 and 2009.
