About The Artwork

This painting is a transition piece between my organic Horizon series of the past 10 years and my recent shift toward more geometric compositions. Here, I've begun to add collage between paint layers. (notice the bottom area with buried letters) I've also started to dig and sand through the countless paint layers to expose surprises beneath. The surface is protected with acrylic varnish. Archival, professional materials used for both the art and stretcher. Gallery wrapped canvas. 20 x 20 x 1.5 inches Signed both front and back © 2018

"Transcending Nature with Tactile Layers of Color & Texture" Shirley Williams is a Canadian artist living and working near the US border, best known for her abstract paintings focused on layered color and tactile texture. Color and texture convey emotion at a subconscious level. Williams' paintings combines these two elements to evoke associations with the energy of landscape and nature. Nature alters our consciousness and lift our spirits. In the same way that being in nature energizes us, Williams' intention is to express this subtle energy boost through paint. Shirley Williams grew up moving often across Canada and Europe, inspired by art in every city. She worked in Toronto for many years as a documentary film producer until 1991 when she began painting full time. Her paintings have been exhibited and collected widely in both Canada and the US.
