Inspired by the late Thomas Kinkade, this painting shows the intersection of old New York and New New York, right around sunrise. Some interesting aspects of this painting include the use of metallic paints on the buildings, which shows the reflection of the sunrise a little more realistically, as well as the use of the palette knife for the East River, which better shows the illusion of movement. Also, the Statue of Liberty is shown at a much larger scale and in a slightly different position than the actual statue, which is done for dramatic effect. This can also be said of the buildings shown, which are not necessarily to scale or a perfect representation of the actual skyline.

I am interested in the interplay of color, focus, depth, and form when I choose a subject to paint. But it is the process of pushing the boundaries of light and depth to create an emotional response brought on by profound beauty. Sometimes it's in the smallest detail, or perhaps the darkest corner - my goal is to make art that shows emotion.
