ABOUT THE ARTWORK

pen and acrylic ink on handmade thai mulberry paper (kada sa), deckled edge, 8 x 11.3 in., 20 x 28.5 cm. The painting is inspired by the typical Thai Buddha images I see Bangkok , I place I regularly return to. The simple finish of this piece gives the project a very parchment feel, old and classic. A slight staining and yellowing has occurred to this piece over time of being exposed to the elements that just adds depth to the painting. The paper I use is a traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. It’s a thick parchment type paper, strong yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect. The close up picture is to get a feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. The deckled edges will be removed in the print version. Packaging for my small paintings like this one is sealed in plastic sleeve, sealed in a padded hard plastic file case, and in an envelope .

I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
