Art Description

Painting: Enamel, Spray Paint, Household, Metal, Manipulated on Steel.

Responding to the elements and serenity of Burns Beach, north of Perth, in Western Australia, this piece exploits the characteristics and properties in the work's steel surface. This object (the surface that presents the colours and textures you see before you) was recovered from a discarded piece of furniture, within the local area of Burns Beach. Salt water, directly extracted from the suburb's beach, coupled with exposure to the natural elements play an important role in manipulating and recreating it's aesthetic. The playful act of chance, exploration and wonder treated the material as a piece of sculpture due to the juxtaposition in material, the 'Man Made' and the 'Natural'.
