The overall title of my art is “Butterfly’s Dream.” This “Butterfly’s Dream” series started as a message to the people of today’s world who have lost their humanity due to excessive greed and materialism, urging them to return to humaneness and enjoy life’s happiness derived from hard effort. This is my dream, and I hope it will be yours as well. In “Butterfly’s Dream”, there is always a butterfly embroidering the empty spots of the Peony blossoms. I used peonies as the main theme of the collection because not only does it contain the image of Korean traditional drawings, but peonies also stand for the wishes of dreams and happiness of human nature. By portraying the butterfly embroidering one stitch at a time for its dream, I was able to maximize the pure and intrinsic desire of human beings. One of the noticeable features in the collection is that the embroidery of the butterflies on the canvas is not an object created by strings but a completed work with paints and varnishes. The reason for this is because I wanted to convey the Asian and Korean emotion to the pieces by using the most basic and original materials of art. I believe this would give life to the work and create a clear connection with my intention. The whole collection is set in present day, and some of them are matched with the art of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. To emphasize the carefulness, wholeheartedness of the embroidery, I drew from the pieces of the two most famous engraving artists, giving a contrasting characteristic of mass production I wish my art, conveying vast dreams and happiness, can make a place in your heart before you leave.
