CAGE VII Painting

Born in 1959 in Portugal.Better know as a playwright, his plays have been staged in Lisbon, Braga, Porto, The United States, Pakistan, Thailand, Brazil and Jerusalem. He was honoured with literary prizes in Portugal, Germany and Spain . His work was published in books and anthologies in Portugal, Germany, The United States, England, Canada India and Spain.He also works on the Visual Arts, having studied with the artists Jorge Curval and Théa de Tanwald. Some individual and group exhibitions.InfluencesMy main influence is Francis Bacon (1909-1992). I love the way that he used to viscerally distort the human figure in order to express the loneliness and despair of the modern human condition. My other influence is the German painter Georg Baselitz (1938). I like his rough Neo- Expressionism. On his strong brush strokes on canvas one can see a rumbling expression of his art voice.These painters are the most important reference in my work. I also like painters like Picasso, Roberto Matta, James Ensor, Tapis or Lucien Freud. As Portuguese painters I prefer Paula Rego, Júlio Pomar and Vieira da Silva.
