Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, Tempera Powder, Resin, Mixed Media on Wood.

Works in this ongoing series are created by combining liquid and powder colours into small plaster shells and dropping them onto various surfaces, which are then covered with a thick layer of clear resin. The pieces are like frozen moments in time, each capturing the exact instant of impact between the ball of mixed colours and the surface. Although I decide on the colour combinations and can, to a certain extent, shape the composition, the compositions are semi-random as the end result is ultimately out of my control. The works tend to resemble supernovae explosions. I find this process of removing myself from the creation of the work exhilarating; each piece is an utter surprise, and the moment of impact is always thrilling!

The titles of the pieces are inspired by the scheme used for naming supernovae.
