C O N N E C T I O N S
This body of work started a few years ago, looking for something new these images first formed out of my imagination and memory. I would sit up late at night sketching, thinking and developing my ideas that would later be the starting points for my canvases. Often I would think about artist like Vuillard, Bonnard, Bacon, Klimt, Schiele and Diebenkorn late at night and think how could I respond to there work in a new way. I began to become very interested in exploring this idea of “CONNECTIONS” not just connections with other people but the connections with ourselves and the internal conversations that we have.
once the works starts they develop very organically and become more reactionary scrapping, sanding, drawing using anything I can to make them work. I work on multiple paintings at the same time. I work more from a feeling rather than worrying about what Im depicting. The surfaces and paint quality become just as important to me when working. It begins to feel more like sculpting and adds life and a new dimension to the work, It gives the work a history and gesture through its build up of paint and materials.
