About The Artwork

I feel excited to try painting on different surfaces. I bought this foamboard to write my 'to do' list, or 'lesson plan' of the week. But the whiteness of the board allured me to paint on it. I was so delighted. A foamboard is so smooth. When I paint, I paint without any conscious thoughts. I feel very liberating. I was giddy with happiness after I stopped in the middle. Then I realised that it looked like sky. I dipped my brush into the thinned black acrylic color and I lightly touched my brush on the foamboard. The lines looked like some iron grills of the window, a little more ornated. It seemed that I was in a flying cage in the sky. From time to time, I love looking at it and it reminds me of our life's journey, conflict between our aspirations and limitations and the inner urge for freedom.

I would like to share a recent review of my artworks by Dallas Jeff. Here is the link : http://www.artistrunwebsite.com/blog/2008/Block+Prints+and+Stamp+Techniques%3A+Art+by+Mandira+Bhaduri ...................................................................................... I am an artist and a language teacher. I started to paint seriously when I moved to USA from Kolkata for the job of teaching Bangla language in the University of Michigan. Uprooting from my known world had a serious impact on me. Away from my family, my friends and the comfort of my culture put me in a void, in a feeling of nothingness. Then the most beautiful thing happened to me. World of colors, lines and forms engulfed me and I found that art was becoming a channel through which I could express my happiness, pain, tears, laughter, fear and courage. I try to make sense of this nonsensical harsh world through my painting. After leaving University of Michigan, I moved to Chicago as a Bengali lecturer in the University of Chicago and taught there until June,2016. Currently, I am in Kolkata, India. I am teaching Bangla language online, enjoying being in my hometown and missing Chicago terribly as it was my second home for nine years in a land far far away.
