This oil painting is one of several new works in my most current series inspired by the Burning Man Festival 2015, "Carnival of Mirrors". After a 15 year hiatus of living abroad and raising a family, I returned home to the dusty Playa in Black Rock City, NV for a life-changing, re-birthing experience. It was apparently the dustiest and coldest year the festival has faced in a long time, however I embraced it with love and massive participation. The event paved a road of ongoing inspiration after seeing the flood of photos that Burners posted on Instagram. Imagery that particularly inspired me the most were of characters and portraits in their supreme moments. Photographing directly from the computer gave the images a natural abstraction of pixels and challenged me further to enhance a moment that vanished into eventual dust. Painting this series has also inevitably kept the connectivity of the community of this festival very much alive; immortalizing the beauty of it all.

Born and raised in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Chelsea Owens was an instantaneous creative visionary. Her early years consisted of collaborative mural paintings, theater, design, photography, and illustration. She attended art programs at the Corcoran School of Art and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst; followed by an artist residency abroad in France. She graduated from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco with a BFA in Production Design and worked in the film/ tv/ theater/ & commercial industry’s art department in LA and SF while collaborating as an art director for many events and installations; including Burning Man Art Festival. In her early twenties, Chelsea moved to Europe and resided near Milan, Italy; focusing exclusively on oil painting for the next decade. She returned to California to raise a family and continued to paint and exhibit internationally. Her artworks have been featured at such places as Art Basel in Switzerland and Carousel de La Louvre Museum. She began teaching art to children of all ages and hosted “art retreats” for adults. After 20 some years, Chelsea came back to the one place she has ever truly called home: The Bay Area. Emerging in a community of creatives post pandemic purgatory, she continues her artistic career with oil paintings that depict explorative depths of the inner and external landscapes we live in; fusing hints of reality with psychological innuendos and infinite imagination to be interpreted and physically felt by viewers. Through color alchemy, texture, technique, and a multitude of layering, these artworks convey a narrative of their own; revealing vulnerability and succession within the membrane of her creative world and visual conquest; ultimately searching for a peaceful harmony between the internal and external world. Her art evaluates the current state of the heart, mind, body, and soul and allows taking risks that ordinarily challenge the human race day to day. Painting is her love language; stirring and inspiring the imagination. Her portfolio can be viewed at: IG:
