ABOUT THE ARTWORK
There are six bird species found nowhere else in the world except in in the Fynbos biome. The Fynbos is a small belt of natural shrubland located in the Western & Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa. It covers only about 6.7% of South Africa but has the largest number of plant species of any biome in the country. Inspired by the beauty and exclusivity of the fynbos biome, I’ve done a collection of 6 paintings that capture these unique birds (The Fynbos 6) as well as the flora of the fynbos in all it’s colourful vibrance and splendour. The painting consists of layered glass with objects painted on each for a 3d effect.
