Polly Natalia Rolland was born and raised in Russia. Despite getting a master's degree in economics, from a young age she knew that her vocation was to be an artist. She considers her art as a depiction of life – a complex mosaic made up of many simple pieces. Deconstructing elaborate objects is a form of meditation for her in hopes of finding a true simplistic approach to everyday life. Polly is currently inspired by nature, flowers and stained-glass. She has chosen watercolor as her primary medium because it allows her to reflect the lightness and simplicity of any depicted object. She tries to bring the stained-glass effect to the paper by alternating empty space and color just like an alternation between an inhale, exhale and breath holding in meditational breathing techniques. Driven by enthusiasm and passion for art she is not afraid to tackle complex things, because she thinks that everything becomes easier if you divide it into components.
