About The Artwork
CATNAP is one in my "Underground" series of NYC subway images, done in a non-traditional watercolor technique on archival 100% cotton rag. I love the city, but wanted to paint something more unusual than urban landscapes of buildings and bridges. Then I realized: What could be more New York than the subway? Falling asleep in a near-empty car...from fatigue? Drugs? Too much dancing? The series tries to explore the off-balance feeling evoked by traveling in a confined subterranean space -- simultaneously mundane yet vaguely menacing.
