ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My artistic inspiration comes from classic impressionist artists such as Van Gogh, Monet and Degas. There are some current artists who influence my work as well, such as Teil Duncan and Sarah Medeira. However, my main inspiration is the subject matter, the environment they are in, and the sentiment that comes across when in their presence. In this case, it is the cattle of Ireland in their grass fields on the rural west coast. They are healthy and unconcerned. The beauty of a cow is that it is large and imposing, but we do not fear it. You can get close to them, but you cannot pet them. They are not wild, but they are not domesticated. This is not a riddle, but it sounds like it! Ultimately the middle ground of a cow in terms of it's relationship with humans is what makes them such a good subject for a painting. Their familiarity, yet distance, is comforting and that is what I hope to get across to the viewer with this piece. Catty's Cow was painting on stretched paper over a wood framed. If purchased, it will come with a black stained wood floater frame, and is ready to hang. If you have any question, please feel free to inquire.

My roots belong in Windsor Ontario, known as the city across the river from Detroit. There, the insatiable hunger to produce artwork began. My first oil painting was of iris' in a wine glass. I told my mother I wanted to paint Iris' and she insisted that we walk to a wealthier neighborhood, convinced we would find them there. She was correct! Seconds after spotting some, she was knocking on a strangers front door, asking whether we could clip some of their flowers. To my shy disbelief, they weren't bewildered, but rather overjoyed to help a young artist with her painting! I live in Toronto now, but the constant madness of getting the perfect painting continues, each piece with its own fantastical tale. Now the paintings environments come from further than the 'wealthier neighborhoods,' but from all of the world during my travel escapades. There is never a terrible time to yell "quick, pull over the car!" or ask "can you hold my purse while I crawl into this tiny space and get a picture of this weird thing?" The perfect shot for a great painting could happen at any moment.
