Stewart always had an interest in painting leaving school with an A grade A level in Art. He went on to study for a degree in Interior Design from the Nottingham School of Art. He started his career with several high profile companies including Brent Walker and Dale Keller Associates working on major international projects, including 5 star hotels and a Royal Palace for the Sultan of Brunei. After being on-site designer on the Intercontinental Hotel in Cairo he joined Fletcher McNeece Associates where his projects included casinos and Middle Eastern palaces for the Saudi Royal Family. Later he was involved as cruise ship architect in designing public areas for the world's first large capacity 2,500 passenger luxury cruise ship built in France, "˜Sovereign of the Seas' for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. Forming his own partnership with two fellow designers, BPW Associates, a number of prestigious luxury cruise ship and ferry projects followed for clients including Royal Caribbean, Crystal Cruises and Viking Line of Finland. Other major projects included work for Harrods as external design consultants, including the phase development of the total 5th floor into Sports and Leisure and the basement development concept planning and design into retail space. Further success resulted in him co-founding his own globally renowned company, Bidnell Phillips Associates, chiefly specialising in luxury cruise ship design and luxury hotels. Other notable projects included the London private residence for HRH the King of Saudi Arabia and the refurbishment of areas on the QE2. A decline of new cruise ship buildings in the early 90s in line with that recession resulted ultimately in Stewart venturing into other areas. He acted as a consultant to a private yacht builder in the design of super yachts as well as designing luxury private residences and villas in the UK, the Middle East and Pakistan with his own company, Phillips Design. As an external design consultant for Harrods he completed a number of successful projects and also formed a separate international partnership with a Qatar based architect, completing a number of prestigious projects there, such as for the Bank of Doha. His love of beautiful and striking design and art form saw him go back to his roots in 2010 when he took up painting as a full time artist. With interior spaces in mind, his pieces of art, working predominantly with oil on canvas, have since developed into a unique style.
