Charlie Mingus, born Charles Mingus, Jr (1922 - 1979), is an American double bassist, composer and jazz pianist. He was also known for his commitment to anti-racism. He made a major contribution to jazz, both as a composer and conductor, but also as an instrumentalist. Many musicians have gone through his various formations and then embarked on impressive careers. His compositions, although melodic and striking, are not often performed, which is perhaps due to their unconventional character. His eccentric and often frightening temperament is almost as well known as his music. His refusal to compromise his artistic integrity and a number of traumatic experiences related to racism have provoked numerous outbursts of anger on stage and elsewhere. Much of Mingus' music is based on the energy of bebop and hard bop, with a strong gospel influence. Mingus also frequently uses elements of Third Stream, free jazz, New Orleans jazz and even classical music, always avoiding categories and creating music of his own. He is interested in collective improvisation and is very attentive to each musician's interaction with the entire formation. He writes instrumental parts taking into account the specificities of his musicians, which brings him closer to the methods of Duke Ellington for whom he has an unlimited admiration.

France
I am a passionate Dutch portraitist who lives and works in France (Blois). I paint personalities and people who touch me, inspired by their talent and vision of life. My paintings are a tribute to these artists of all kinds, authentic, pure and, in my opinion, talented. I started with figurative Portraits. Now I am experimenting with pop art and contrasting colors. I like to work in series: Forever 27, Jazz musicians and singers, Impressionist Painters, Pop Music Stars, French singing and musical artists. I am happy to share these portraits with you and invite you to discover them here.
