About The Artwork

The Major Mitchell is a quintessential Australian character. Full of life, a larrikin, and a show off. This bird has a personality as big as Oz! My intention in this painting was to try and capture that full blown personality. He's bright, funny and is sure to make your smile and add a little pink POW to your art collection. My practise is predominantly interactive acrylics, I enjoy the speed in which I can create, and I can manipulate them to mimic watercolours, or oils, with the flexibility of working into them quickly. As I have very little patience, this medium suits me nicely. My work is about expressing a feeling, I'm not interested in painting a photograph, my work needs to make me feel something. I hope you enjoy it too!

Emma Ward is an early career artist living and working in Central Queensland. Working in drawing, painting and sculpture, Emma’s practice revolves around connecting feelings with memories and the importance of time. As a catalyst to unlocking personal narratives Emma uses nature, and domestic objects to weave stories about identity, love and nurturing. In her larger practise, Emma’s work also explores the human connection with mother nature and delivers her subtle stories with a nod to the changing identity of the feminine condition. "In 2009 as a mother of four beautiful daughters, karma gave me a mighty slap in the form of cataracts. The shocking reality of two eye surgeries in my early thirties was enough to make me re-value and re-ignite a natural talent that had laid dormant for almost a decade. That, teamed with the desire to be a strong feminine role model for my girls was the encouragement I needed to return to my pencils and brushes. I've been exhibiting, and self-representing since 2009. My artwork has been purchased by private collectors across Australia"
