Cherry Blossoms Painting

The impact of grief inspired the work. I imagined the boughs of cherry blossom trees to symbolise the veil between life and death. I hope viewers will feel some powerful emotion or thoughts when looking at this. The beauty of the cherry blossoms contrasting with the contorted, thoughtful figure. I love using oils, to me, they are soft and creamy and alive, like the bodies I so often paint. I was deep in grief at losing an important person in my life, and I was going through a process of reordering my thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and life plans, all of which had been reshaped by grief. The style I'd say is realism mixed with a touch of abstraction and my usual Ukiyo-e influence, with a blanace of negative space, fine detail, a limited palate and a theme of elegance and melancholy.
