ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece is sold unframed and is oil on board prepared with high quality gesso primer. Painting still life for me is a way of pure escapism where I’m imagining myself within that space or quietness, this need to find stillness – most of my paintings don’t have figures in them so it’s an empty space with the focus of one or two elements to draw your attention closer. I create spaces where I want to imagine myself being in. I try to invoke an atmosphere, a feeling in the viewer but more in myself, that is why I paint these vignettes these interior spaces, places where I would like to be more often…

Born in South Africa and currently living in France. I originally trained as an interior designer but changed tracks later in life when I was seduced by oil paint. I am fascinated by the emotional bonds that we have with decorative objects and interior spaces, becoming elevated when we capture these on film or art. I am self taught and work mainly in oil, influenced by the Dutch masters and contemporary Realist movement.
