I was moved by the senseless destruction of ancient city sites and relics in the Middle East by IS. The city of Nimrud was bulldozed in the terrorist's attempts to erase all history that contradicts their own political views. This is my tribute. The lotus, often depicted in carvings, sculptures and palace reliefs in the middle east, fits into my current body of work featuring images of the lotus, Buddha, pop art influences and uses contradictory methods and juxtapositions of subject and context. This painting was awarded the juror's Best of Show recognition in the exhibition, Horizon: Contemporary Landscape, in 2015 at the Community Arts Center, Danville, Ky. USA.
