Iris Divina Frederix was born in 1981 in Schimmert (The Netherlands). She studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, section "˜Autonomous Art' Department of Painting and graduated in 2004. Human drama and comedy are the primary source of inspiration for her work. The urge to submerge herself thoroughly into her chosen subject usually results in a series of particular works. Large canvasses, clear colours or atmospheric pictures; the centre of attention is always the humanbeing or his palpable presence. Iris Frederix identifies with the people who inhabit her canvases and melds with the romantic experience of her surroundings. This perception of the world is manifested in her unique way, making us part of her cognition. Iris Frederix became known by her commissioned portraits (sometimes of monumental scale) of prominent Dutch people, such as political leader Frits Bolkestein, comedian Youp van 't Hek, photographer Gerard Fieret and soccercoach Guus Hiddink. Her work has been featured in numerous artmagazines, (television)documentaries, movies and newspapers.
