ABOUT THE ARTWORK

City lights is a painting inspired by a city at night, maybe in Paris, where I live, or somewhere else in the world. In the foreground, there are everyday objects such as vases or pots. We can imagine that they are placed in front of a window. Behind these objects, there is a view of the city at night. We see buildings with lights. I love the excitement of the city at night. Night in the city is an invitation to walking and contemplation. This painting has beautiful shades of blue, purple ( from lavender blue to prussian blue ) and grey with a touch of orange. It is both deep and light, an invitation to dream. I like more and more work on the relationship between white and colors on canvases, so I decided to put white on the sides of this one. Moreover, the charcoal lines are structuring the canvas subtly. This is a medium sized painting ( 65 H x 81 W x 2 cm ) I imagine it on a piece of not too great wall with a frame in an american black box. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask me. I will be happy to answer you.

I was born and grew up in Paris where I currently live and work. Because my father was a lawyer, he had always wanted me to become a lawyer; I therefore did obtain my Master in law (Private Law), but also used such credentials to eventually obtain my Master in Fine Arts. I knew becoming an artist wouldn't be straightforward, yet I still decided to follow that dream. Post graduation, I was given the opportunity to travel in many parts of the world ( USA, Australia, the Caribbean, Polynesia, Europe, to name a few), and those trips still influence my work today. For as long as I can remember, I have always been very fond of drawing and painting. I have made it a habit of letting my unconscious work for me, guide me, and I am always surprised myself by the results. I believe that my paintings or drawings are very different from one another, as they are autobiographical and related to my moods. Some are gestural and others are much calmer. In terms of external influences and inspiration, I feel very close to Bram van Velde, Nicolas de Staël, Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler and Joan Mitchell. Since 2011, I've been living and working in Montmartre aux Artistes, an artist estate in Paris, created in 1933 and dedicated to welcoming artists and helping them grow. Each year, in October, for a weekend, I open my studio to the public, and I am very proud and grateful to have built a very loyal audience of collectors who have started following my work over the years. Many of them have also acquire several of my pieces. I am a proud member of the Fondation Taylor.
