About The Artwork

Inspired by my education as a technical draftsman, and working as a draftsman at several architectural offices, I started to paint in a geometrical style. (1990). My fascination and my love for architecture never faded. I started painting professionally in 1994. Participated from 1994 in lots of groupshows in Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Rome and New Delhi. In 1995 I became a member of Artassociation Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. In 1998 I received a basic stipendium for two years from the Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (Fonds voor Beeldende Kunsten, Vormgeving en Bouwkunst) in Amsterdam. I presented several solo-exhibitions, from 1994 in Galerie De Verdieping, Amsterdam. In 1996 at CLB (Central Laboratories Bloodtransfusion) Amsterdam. In 2000, I made a solo at the BNA (Foundation of Dutch Architects) in Amsterdam. I presented in 2001 two solo-exhibitions in Rome, at Gallery Monogramma, and at Business Centre Parco di Medici. In 2007 I had a solo at LAK in Leiden. I organized and curated from 2003 till 2006 three major international groupexhibitions. 2003: "La Nuit Amèricaine", at Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. In 2004: "News from Home", at White Box's Annex, Chelsea, New York. In 2006: "Le Mépris", at Mediamatic in Amsterdam. These exhibitions were all cinematografic inspired. I presented from December 2009 till March 2010 a project at the Mondriaanhuis in Amersfoort, the exhibition: "Moniek Voulon verbindt..." ("Moniek Voulon connects..."), together with Chantal Akerman and Marc Muller. From 2010 till now, I make shows in Amsterdam with my new series of paintings "Urban Landscapes" and show and sell my paintings online. My latest series of paintings are titled: "Urban landscapes" and "City-scapes". The work is executed in oil on canvas. On the photo: City-scape in pink, 2017. In my paintings I want to show my fascination with the urban architecture, uncontrolled and random wildgrow, and unexpected structures, developed in metropoles. I want to visualize that everything is connected, a.o. by the electronic highway. Additionally my work proposes a reflection on the overload of information and choises in society and represents "a social landscape". www.moniekvoulon.com
