Artist Manifesto: Defying the Trends of Modern Art Introduction I was born in 1977 in Suceava, Romania, into a world defined by contrasts: the quiet, timeless landscapes of Bucovina and the shifting tides of a country on the verge of transformation. My artistic journey has been unconventional. I am self-taught, with no formal training in painting, yet my love for creating has been shaped by a diverse array of experiences. A former math Olympian, a trained violinist in early childhood, and a lifelong athlete who thrives in extreme sports and endurance challenges, I have cultivated a mindset of discipline, creativity, and resilience. For the past two decades, I have worked in a multinational environment, navigating the complexities of a corporate world while dreaming of a way to escape its constraints through art. My paintings are a reflection of my personal values and an outright rejection of the direction modern art has taken in recent years. Why I Reject the Current Modern Art Movement The modern art movement, as I see it, is steeped in a superficial pretense that has alienated both artists and audiences. Much of it appears devoid of the emotional resonance and aesthetic beauty that once made art a powerful form of communication. Galleries are filled with works that, to me, prioritize conceptual posturing over genuine craftsmanship. Abstract minimalism and cold, impersonal experimentation dominate, while the timeless values of skill, beauty, and storytelling are too often discarded. I refuse to be part of this phase of art history—a phase that prioritizes shock value, fleeting trends, and intellectual elitism over the deeper, universal truths that art can convey. For me, art should connect, inspire, and elevate. It should evoke emotions and bring people closer to the human experience, not leave them confused or indifferent. Why My Work Is Different My paintings reflect a commitment to combining timeless beauty with a modern sensibility. Drawing inspiration from the landscapes I’ve explored on my snowboard or mountain bike, the flowing energy of rivers I’ve kayaked, and the rhythm of endurance sports I’ve trained for, my art seeks to capture the dynamism and vibrancy of life. These elements of movement, harmony, and struggle find their way onto the canvas in bold, textured strokes and vivid, layered colors.
